This Vintage Shower in Washington DC was restored to its Former Beauty with a Tile and Grout Cleaning Service
May 11, 2016
This Washington DC homeowner had a beautiful vintage white tile shower that was simple, yet elegant. For the homeowner, owning a classic white ceramic tile shower had many perks. The tiny ceramic tiles made the small shower stall look larger, and the white tiles made the bathroom look pristine. Unfortunately, it also had its downsides. Since the tiles were so small, this meant that there were more grout lines to scrub, making the cleaning process tedious and time consuming. Even though the homeowner cleaned his shower regularly, he had come to realize that the grout lines were getting dirtier as time went by, and the tiles had horrible grey and brown stains. No matter which products he used or how hard he scrubbed, the dirt and stains just wouldn't come out. There was also mold and mildew growing in the grout lines, which was what worried our customer the most, since fungal spores are known to be hazardous to health.
The homeowner was certain that the shower was beyond repair, but one day he mentioned the situation to his neighbor and she recommended our Washington DC tile and grout cleaning services. He called us and asked for an inspection to see if anything could be done.
Most homeowners choose tile floors because they think they are impervious to damage. However, non-porcelain tiles have a water absorption greater than 0.5%, making them more likely to stain. Now imagine what would happen if a shower is exposed to soap, shampoo, dirt, and moisture on a daily basis for several years – it's likely that the grout lines and tile will need a deep cleaning service. Over time, dirt and moisture can dry out and discolor the grout, making it look grimy. All of this had happened to the homeowner's shower.
When the team inspected the shower, they knew that the job would be challenging but not impossible. They were prepared to perform a comprehensive tile and grout cleaning service to restore the shower's pristine look. The shower was in for a deep cleaning and ColorSeal application. To accomplish the challenging task, the team combined a pH-neutral cleaning agent with a vapor steam cleaning process that effectively removed even the most persistent dirt and grime. Dirty grout lines will detract from the beauty of even the cleanest tile floor, so the grout also needed ColorSeal, our proprietary sealer that seals and recolors grout, making it water-, stain-, mold-, and mildew-resistant. The best part is that ColorSeal would be able to make the cleanup process easier for the homeowner. Finally, the team applied tile armor to seal the tile in order to prevent stains.
Our customer had high hopes and Sir Grout did not disappoint him. When he saw the finished job, he had to do a double take to make sure that his mind wasn't playing tricks on him! The shower appeared as if it had been completely renovated – it looked spotless and intact. In fact, it looked like the tile had just been installed! This is what our professional restoration services can achieve.
To properly care for your tile and grout, Sir Grout recommends that you avoid abrasive and acidic cleaning agents and recommends that you use neutral or soap-less cleaners instead, as abrasive cleaners can dissolve and discolor your grout. Also, shower stalls should always be well ventilated since humidity and stagnant water make the perfect breeding ground for stain-causing fungi.
